National Trust Lyveden New Bield
10 Dec 2010
Two grants were awarded to this site, the first being for work at Lady wood.
This involved the regeneration of the ancient craft of coppicing. This ancient craft, which would traditionally have been practiced in this woodland, was carried out with the help of volunteers, and the material produced used on other projects such as hedgelaying and thatching.
Part of the grant was used to create a walk from Lyveden to Lady wood with associated interpretation to explain what was happening in the wood. This walk should enhance visitor enjoyment to the site and provide healthy recreational opportunities.
The second grant was for hedge and treeplanting around what is going to be he new car park at Lyveden and creating wood pasture. This should help to screen the cars from the visiting public and thus maintain the air of tranquillity at the site
