Breathing Spaces- East Northampton Woodlands (2006-2008)
20 Sep 2008
Lings Wood and Fox Covert are two woodlands in the Eastern District of Northampton.
Lings Wood is the home of the Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust. There are various paths around and in this woodland site, and there is also an education centre for school visits, and a ‘Forest Schools’ site, where a series of visits encourage participants, through mastery of small achievable tasks in a woodland environment, to grow in confidence and independence so that they develop a sense of self-worth.
The project improves the access track to the site, making it easier to get to, and improves the woodland habitat, including clearance of non-native trees. Signs have been installed to help people find their way between Lings Wood and the nearby Fox Covert.
Fox Covert is a small pocket of woodland open to the public, but, until recently, little used. Entrance areas and paths have been improved to make the site more welcoming, and two exciting climbing boulders have been installed to provide a challenge for young people.
