Research and Development
06 May 2009
This project has developed a wider stakeholder engagement programme to enhance and take forward Sub Regional Green Infrastructure projects in partnership with public, private and voluntary sectors. These projects, such as Space magazine (see RNRP Publications >>> ) have driven forward the RNRP and GI delivery whilst enabling access to wider funding streams and supporting innovation in project design and delivery.
Research from this project also enabled a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund under their 'Landscape Partnership' Grant. The 'Unlocking the Character of Salcey Forest and Yardley Chase' programme allowed a great deal of research to be carried out in this area. Both are extremely important sites within Northamptonshire with one being far more 'unknown' than the other.
A key element of this project is the Nene Valley Strategy. This is being supported by project partners, and is partially funded by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund. Workshops on access, biodiversity and waterways have taken place, in the context of environmental management, economic and tourism development, and a strategy workshop has happened recently to look at themes and locations, and strategy options. The work is being driven by, and maximises the potential of, the ecological sensitivity of the area, particularly the requirements of managing the land as a proposed Special Protection Area under the EU Habitats directive. This was designated for its special value to over-wintering and breeding birds.
