Tree Planting at Barnwell on the Old Railway Line
27 Nov 2008
Much of the old railway line from Barnwell towards Wigsthorpe has been planted with trees over the last 20 to 30 years.
Some of the early plantings are now seen as being inappropriate and the hedgerows on either side of the old line are also showing signs of needing restoration work.
A grant was provided for further new planting to fill in the gaps in both the hedgerows and where older trees have been removed. This site was seen as important as it forms a belt of woodland in a part of the countryside with few other wooded areas and degraded hedgerows. The belt also provides a feature which is important within the landscape characterisation of the area.
